Description
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially debilitating disease of the immune system and undermine the protective layer that covers nerves. This is disturbing the communication between the brain and entire body. Ultimately, this can cause nerve damage.
MS caused by damage to myelin – the protective sheath surrounding nerve fibers in the central nervous system. When myelin is destroyed, would disrupt the delivery of ‘messages’ between the brain and other body parts.
Multiple sclerosis can occur at any age, most often occurs in people aged 20 to 40 years. Women are more likely to potentially develop multiple sclerosis than men.
Symptoms
Symptoms vary greatly, depending on the amount of damage and affected certain nerves. People with severe multiple sclerosis possible loss of the ability to walk or talk. Multiple sclerosis is difficult to diagnose in the early development of this disease, because the symptoms often come and go – sometimes disappear for months.
Multiple sclerosis signs and symptoms include: numbness or weakness on one or more limbs, which usually occurs on one side of the body at one time or the lower half of the body. Partially or completely lost vision, usually in one eye at a time, often with pain during eye movement (optic neuritis), double vision or blurred vision, tingling or pain in the body, sensation due to certain head movements, fatigue, and dizziness .
Most people with multiple sclerosis, especially in the early stages of the disease, experience recurrence of symptoms, followed by periods of complete or partial remission. Signs and symptoms of multiple sclerosis are often triggered or exacerbated by the increase in body temperature.
Treatment
There is no cure for multiple sclerosis. Treatment usually focuses on combat and manage the symptoms of an autoimmune response. Some people have mild symptoms and do not need special treatment.
