Description: Pravastatin is a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or “statins”. Lovastatin reduces levels of “bad” cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of “good” cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL). Pravastatin is used for adults and children who are at least 8 years old.Indications: Used to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides (fats) in blood, and also to reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack or other heart complications in people with diabetes, a disease or other rissiko factor.Dose: Initial dose :10-20 mg by mouth (orally), one time a day at bedtime.Coverage dosage: 10-40 mg by mouth (orally), one time a day at bedtime. Side Effects: Muskoskeletal effects (myalgia, arthralgia, muscle cramps); GI effects (diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence), rash, headache.The occurrence of myopathy, and is usually associated with high doses of statins when combined with nicotinic acid (niacin) or a fibrate, in patients with liver or kidney damage, serious infections, hypothyroidism, and in elderly patients. The occurrence of rhabdomyolysis, but rather rare. Advise patients to consult a doctor immediately if signs of muscle disease that leads to myopathy (especially if accompanied by fever and malaise). Special Instructions: Doses must be on the history of the patient lipoprotein.Increasing doses should be completed within four weeks, according to the response of patients to achieve desired levels of lipoproteins.Should not be used in patients with liver disease (liver), chronic.Previously, liver function (liver) should be tested, after 6-12 weeks of therapy and any dose increase.
